lyrics

Verse 1
Born mid-island by the fens, / Went to school with fishermen,
Spent the summers baking soda bread,
Waitressed at the Chanticleer, / Skinny dipped at Nobadeer,
Lost her oyster at Tom Nevers Head.

Chorus 1
Paradise, Jubilee, / Eden twenty miles at sea,
Sunrise yawns, sunset sails, / Friday nights, Rusty Nail.
Life was kind, water warm, / Surfing life before the storm.
Just before the storm

Verse 2
Followed a guitar to land, / E-string for a wedding band,
First there came a boy and then a girl.
Tempers hot, lovers cooled, / Left alone, taught high school
At the other edge of the world.

Chorus 2
Paradise, Jubilee, / Thousand miles from the sea,
Sunrise bells, sunset books, / Friday night no fishing hooks.
Life was calm, water warm, / Children grown before the storm,
Just before the storm.

[instrumental break]

Verse 3
Back mid-island by the fens, / Thirty years, home again,
Sliding home like sand rides up the dunes
Sing to sleep her daughter’s son, / Songs of aging fishermen,
New words pasted onto faded tunes.

Chorus 3
Paradise, Jubilee, / Old dreams cradled by the sea,
Sunrise yawns, sunset sails, / Ghosts play at the Rusty Nail.
Life was kind, water warm, / Surfing life before the storm.
Just before the storm.
