Ashokan Farewell (1987 studio sketches)

by Laurasia

/

about

Laurasia violinist Jonathan Levi was chatting with friend Ric Burns about a documentary that Burns was creating with his brother Ken for public television. Levi proposed that Laurasia create a variety of treatments of "Ashokan Farewell," the song that the Burns brothers were interested in using.
Levi and guitarist Patrick S. Noonan then created these sketches for what turned out to be the signature music of the groundbreaking series, "The Civil War."
During a pandemic archiving and digitizing project, these original recordings emerged, enabling their their public debut in 2022.
